As a founder and director of the project, mediator and President of the International Association of Mediators and Lawyers “MediaT”, Varsenik Ayrapetyan says:
“The MediaT Theater project was born in 2020 after I introduced future mediators from the second stream of my training to the material of my Belarusian colleagues from “Medialand,”. — Belarusian colleagues staged theatrical plays in which characters from famous literary works came to meet with a mediator.

Theater of mediation
The most interesting to future specialists in the field of mediation seemed to be the plot in which the jealous Othello and the beautiful Desdemona turn for help. It became the basis for the first performance called “Othello - the view of a mediator.” For the second year now, the acting (the mediators themselves) have been very popular among colleagues.
The mediators liked their ideas so much that the material was remade and improved over time. The text was brought closer to the original by being translated into English. After that, the performance acquired international status: Vartuhi Suvaryan from Krasnodar acted as a Мediator, and Othello is played by her colleague Rajan Prajapati.
Rajan Prajapati is from India, and Desdemona is Kristine Arzumanova from Cyprus. Technically, the performance takes place on the Zoom platform.
During this time, the performance was shown at various professional conferences. The effect is always the same: the audience is delighted. This is a success!
However, although the organizers of the Mediation Theater have a goal - to popularize mediation activities, as Varsenik Ayrapetyan admits, this approach is not always a salvation from all troubles. In order to demonstrate this, the theater participants prepared another production - based on “The Heart of a Dog” by Mikhail Bulgakov. No, in the play “Heart of a Dog. “Is mediation always possible?” proletarian Shvonder never found a common language with the intelligent professor Preobrazhensky. This could not have happened, because the parties initially had too different values.
“It’s the same in mediation,” explains project manager Varsenik Ayrapetyan, “there is not always a plantain that can be applied to any wound to heal it.” There are situations in which initial positions are so irreconcilable that the parties a priori will not be able to agree and resolve contradictions.
Benefits of Mediation Theater
Future mediators admit: the work process became much clearer after they watched the play about Othello and Desdemona. Some have even done this several times before starting their first educational mediation.
Productions help simulate life situations on stage in which participants live out new roles, reveal themselves in different qualities, and learn something new about themselves and the world. This format of art mediation does not provide the participant with ready-made judgments but offers them the means for deeper contact with the work. For mediators themselves, this tool makes it possible to increase the effectiveness of training, simultaneously increasing communicative competencies and developing imaginative thinking and expressiveness of speech.
Theater is needed primarily to popularize mediation. You can talk as much as you like about how useful it is and verbally convince people not to go to court, but only thanks to such extraordinary cases can you show how it works. In the end, if we manage to reconcile Othello and his beloved and avoid Shakespearean tragedy, it will be possible to resolve many conflicts and contradictions in real life.
Future of the project
As you know, the future is born today. The International Association of Mediators and Lawyers "MediaT" agreed with colleagues from Georgia, the International Association of Mediators and Poly-Experts, and India Equa.Law This made it possible to create a unique international theater mediation club, of which every mediator from all over the world can become a member. More and more people want to participate in the theater’s work. The project is not limited by territory, theater has no borders, and knowledge of different languages allows us to popularize the instrument in other countries. We have already published productions in English, Ingush, Russian, and Armenian and we are not stopping there.
Today, participants are preparing new performances, looking for works of classical and modern literature that will help show all the possibilities of the mediation procedure.
In addition, the International Association of Mediators and Lawyers “MediaT” submitted documents for a grant to the Presidential Fund for Cultural Initiatives. With the help of the MediaT Theater project, it is planned to develop a new stage of their development and teach communication in a way that entire volumes of professional and fiction literature could not do.

პროექტის მომავალი
მოგეხსენებათ, მომავალი დღეს იბადება. მედიატორთა და იურისტთა საერთაშორისო ასოციაცია "MediaT" დაეთანხმა საქართველოს კოლეგებს, მედიატორთა და პოლიექსპერტთა საერთაშორისო ასოციაციას და ინდოეთის Equa.Law ამან შესაძლებელი გახადა უნიკალური საერთაშორისო თეატრალური მედიაციის კლუბის შექმნა, რომელშიც ყველა მედიატორი ყველა მთელ მსოფლიოში შეიძლება გახდეს წევრი. სულ უფრო მეტ ადამიანს სურს მონაწილეობა მიიღოს თეატრის მუშაობაში. პროექტი არ შემოიფარგლება ტერიტორიით, თეატრს არ აქვს საზღვრები, სხვადასხვა ენების ცოდნა კი საშუალებას გვაძლევს გავხადოთ ინსტრუმენტი სხვა ქვეყნებში. ჩვენ უკვე გამოვაქვეყნეთ ნაწარმოებები ინგლისურ, ინგუშურ, რუსულ და სომხურ ენებზე და ამაზე არ ვჩერდებით.
დღეს მონაწილეები ამზადებენ ახალ სპექტაკლებს, ეძებენ კლასიკური და თანამედროვე ლიტერატურის ნაწარმოებებს, რაც ხელს შეუწყობს მედიაციის პროცედურის ყველა შესაძლებლობის ჩვენებას.
გარდა ამისა, მედიატორთა და იურისტთა საერთაშორისო ასოციაციამ „MediaT“-მა საგრანტო დოკუმენტაცია წარუდგინა პრეზიდენტის კულტურული ინიციატივების ფონდს. MediaT Theater პროექტის დახმარებით იგეგმება მათი განვითარების ახალი ეტაპის განვითარება და კომუნიკაციის ისე სწავლება, რასაც პროფესიული და მხატვრული ლიტერატურის მთელი ტომები ვერ გააკეთებდა.
